Joseph McNerney, DO
Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
Dr McNerney, DO is an experienced board-certified osteopathic physician. He is an experienced medical educator. He is the past president of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. He is also a Distinguished Fellow of the college. Dr. McNerney is an Emeritus Chairman of the American Board of Osteopathic Family Physicians. This Board certifies all Osteopathic Family Physicians in the United States.
Dr. McNerney practiced Family Medicine for 20 years in rural Iowa before becoming the Clinical Dean of The Touro University College Of Osteopathic Medicine in California. He later assumed the role of Director of Medical Education of the Osteopathic Division of St. John Providence Health System, a large health system in and around Detroit Michigan. In both these roles Dr. McNerney established multiple new residency training programs and new clinical rotations for medical students.
Dr. McNerney moved to Florida in 2014 and has practiced in this area since that time. Dr. McNerney was also Board Certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine in 1988.
Mario Mendizabal, MD
Dr Mendizabal has been practicing General and Family Medicine in Citrus County for 42 years.
He attended the U.M.S.S. Faculty of Medicine in Cochabamba, Bolivia from 1963 through 1970, moved to the U.S in 1971 and started with his post graduate training on the same year.
He completed an Internship at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa Oklahoma followed by two and a half years of Residency training in Psychiatry in Norman, Oklahoma. Dr Mendizabal joined the US Public Health Service and worked as a General Medical officer for the Indian Health Service for 3 years. He then decided to continue working as a General Physician and moved to Inverness, Florida in 1976. Dr Mendizabal has been on the staff of both Citrus Memorial Hospital and Seven Rivers Hospital for all of these years. He became Board Certified in Family Practice in 1978 and currently is a Lifetime Member of the American Academy of Family Medicine.
Dr Mendizabal believes in the traditional, science based clinical medical approach to patient care and is particularly interested in the medical care of the elderly.
Ken Savage, DO
Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
Kenneth L. Savage Jr. D.O. is a Citrus County native. He comes from a long line of doctors including his grandfather, who practiced Family Medicine, and his father, who founded Citrus Cardiology 40 years ago.

Family Nurse Practitioner
Ashley Wisenbaker is a Family Nurse Practitioner, Board Certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. After 10 years in medical office administration she received her Associates Degree in Nursing in 2010 from Lake Sumter State College. She received her Masters of Science in Nursing from Frontier Nursing University in 2015 and has been working as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse since.
Ashley strives to provide quality care and enjoys assisting her patients to stay healthy throughout their lives.
Janet Slawinski, ANP
Advanced Nurse Practitioner
Janet Slawinski is Board Certified as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Nursing from Stony Brook University in 1993. She returned there for her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, which she completed in 1998.
She completed her Advanced Practice Registered Nurse degree in 2005, also from Stony Brook. She has been working as a Certified Nurse Practitioner since. She love what she does! She treats her patients like family.
Dennis Montfort, FNP
Family Nurse Practitioner
Dennis was born in Belmond, Iowa, and grew up in New Carrollton, Maryland. He has spent the majority of his adult life in Central Florida, primarily in Orlando. He and his wife Evelyn have been married for twenty years and have three children and one grandson.
While Dennis began his work life in service industries and business management and remained in these fields for several years, he began to feel the desire to pursue a career in healthcare. While still working in business, he acquired his EMT certification and then his Paramedic certification. He gradually transitioned to work in an Orlando Regional Hospital emergency department and in several ambulance services.
Meanwhile he received his AS degrees in Emergency Medical Services and Nursing from Seminole State College. While working as a nurse at Orlando Regional Medical Center, he received his BS in Nursing from the University of Central Florida and eventually returned to school one last time to acquire his Master’s Degree in Nursing at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Since then he has been providing medical services as a Nurse Practitioner in Citrus County. Dennis has had the privilege of working with Dr. Mario Mendizabal, a provider of over 42 years in Citrus county, and he is enjoying the transition to Nature Coast Health Care and working with Dr. Savage and Dr. Mendizabal.
Dennis and Evelyn feel that their move from Orlando to Citrus County was one of the best decisions they could have made. They love Citrus County with its beautiful waterways, intriguing wildlife, and friendly people; they plan to make it their “forever home.”
Darrin McGhan, PA
Darrin McGhan was a flight medic in the Army from 1973-1976. He later graduated from Nova Southeastern with his Physician Assistant degree in 1996.
He spent 3 years doing Nephrology, then 2 more years doing Gastroenterology. Since 2001 he has been working in Citrus County doing Primary Care.
